Well I did end up buying it and after putting around 10hrs into it I realized that I will be putting a lot more into it. But its not for everyone...it takes one hell of a time to get going and there is no manual, you have to read the x3 forums to learn everything. But after reading through countless tutorials, trading lots of goods, destroying pirate ships and learning the controls I finally obtained my own space station. Its not like other games in the genre, you don't just buy a station and thats it. First I had to hail a captain of a ship that could actually transport the station, ask him to dock at the Ship Dock and buy it, take it to the sector I wanted it, find a position for it and tell him to drop it and pay him for his troubles. Then I had to pour money into the station to get it going. The station is a Wheat Farm which produces wheat for the local stations in the sector that need the resource, but my station needs energy to do so. So I bought a transport ship and made him go around the galaxy to buy energy cells from all the solar power plants. After it gets going I set the price I sell the Wheat for and I can also set the max price I want my transport ship to buy energy for. After it is up and running it runs by it self and it deposits the profits into my account, I just have to check up on it to make sure the economy hasn't changed and if it has I have to change my prices. With that going I can now explore other sectors and battle pirates. Theres so much you can do its sometimes overwhelming. You could buy a police license and patrol sectors for pirates and for each pirate you kill you get bounty money. You can also buy a freight scanner and scan normal transport ships for illegal cargo and bust them, of you yourself can become a pirate and smuggle goods or destroy civilian ships for their cargo. I have barely scratched the surface of the game, but making the first scratch into the game is really fucking hard. But the amazing thing is that you really feel like just another ship in the game, since all the npcs do all this. When I was doing trading by myself I would be racing to stations to get the good deal only to be beaten by one of the npcs racing me there. Heres a pic of my new station....

No multiplayer, Singleplayer only. There is a story but it sucks and most people just dive into the open end game. There are factions and each ones ships all look different and they all fight and trade between each other.
Just be ready to pour hours into reading tutorials on the forums, this isnt freelancer and the steep learning curve really is its only downfall.

Sounds fun! Really all I care about is watching millions of tons of steel jet trough space at ultraluminous speeds. The graphics look amazing.
