I just finished the lost coast demo. Too bad its only a demo, but it was a lot of fun. They start you out with all the weapons and you just make your way through this little course. I love blasting the combine off a HUGE cliff with the shotgun and watching them tumble to the water below! Id urge anyone with hl2 to try Lost Coast.
Also, any word on the release of the full level?

Well, i got bored so i decided to go over to where the factories and houses where. I know know why you cant get over there, there is nothing there. the houses are translucent and most of it isnt mapped yet. If you really want to get over there, its kind of interesting.
Right by the gate that you start near there is a small boat and a larger, demolished boat, use the gravity gun to move the small boat near the edge of the water and jump in it. Then use the grav gun to pick up the other boat and nudge yourself in the direction you want to go. Eventually you will get enough momentum to float over to the other side. Its great.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but thats all Lost Coast is, a demo. It is a map specifcally made to show you their new HDR Bloom Effect for lighting. They are going to be incorporating this technology into the newer maps that are going to be coming out for CS:S, DoD:S, and HL2 Deathmatch.
That getting to the other side of the map thing sounds cool, but if you go around in ghost mode in CS:S then you realize that all of their objects off in the distance aren't completely modeled.

Yeah, i know what you mean about cs. When they where talking about it, lost coast was supposed to be "a side map, not critical to the story line". That was sufficiently smaller than any hl2 map ive ever played. Highly dissapointing if thats all we get.
The lighting was ausome though!

Toireht and I downloaded this about two weeks ago. We both played through it and enjoyed the game greatly. It has some very cool effects and an awesome atmosphere. I specifically loved the church area. The stained-glass windows were awesome, and the light that came in when you shot them out was really sick. I cant wait to see more of this from HL2.
